“Although no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending“ Carl Bard
I recently saw this quoted on Instagram and it really resonated with me and got me thinking about the new year ahead and what I want to achieve in 2017.
A new year brings new resolutions, new goals and new dreams both in your personal and work lives.
I am a big believer in goal setting, articulating what it is you want to achieve today, this week, this month, this year.
For me this is usually a simple list in a word doc on my laptop.
To ensure my goals are realistic I ask myself 3 questions before setting each goal;
1. Will it improve my life and/or business?
2. Is it achievable?
3. Is it measurable?
Everyone needs something to work towards whether it’s a family holiday camper vanning around NZ (flights and camper van booked!), increasing your email database by 10 each month or doubling your clients in the next 6 months. Whatever they may be, goal setting gives what you do some purpose and perspective rather than getting stuck in the day to day grind.
Goal setting will help to keep you motivated, focused and task oriented.
Are the things you’re doing today going to help you achieve the goals you have set? If not, are they worth doing? Reaching your goals is also kind of addictive. I always get a little buzz and a feeling of accomplishment when a goal has been reached and this keeps me motivated to keep on achieving them.
Dream big, it’s a new year and a time for new endings.
Whatever goals you are hoping to accomplish this year remember to ask yourself these 3 questions 1. Will it improve my life and/or business? 2. Is it achievable? and 3. Is it measurable? before committing to the goals and you will be well on your way to reaching them.
Happy New Year, I wish you all the very best for the year ahead.
